Tutoring, College Prep, Writing Coach

So much of the writing instruction teens get is focused on the short-term, specific tasks required for getting into college that many of them don't know how to do college-level work once they get there. My approach doesn't just teach to the test or the Common App. I use test preparation and application prompts as occasions for building lifelong skill.

Most students arrive at the end of high school with a few gaps in their fundamental writing knowledge. The pandemic's disruptions have made those gaps a bigger, more common problem than ever before. The schools are doing their best, but some students need more help. And some students just need different help.

For 25 years, I've been helping teenagers from middle school through college master their writing challenges. Before going freelance, I taught composition, literature, and creative writing at Rutgers University for 7 years. Since then, in addition to one-on-one writing instruction, I've been the entire English Language Arts department for a homeschool cooperative, done homework help across the curriculum, and helped students research to develop their target college lists.

I am available for in-person meetings in Rockville and virtual meetings anywhere.
